If you're searching for the perfect spot for your family photo session in Omaha, you're in luck, this city is full of beautiful, varied locations that make for stunning, timeless images. Whether you love wide open fields, lush tree canopies, or charming urban backdrops, Omaha has something for every family's style. Here are some of my favorite go-to spots!
Elmwood Park
Tucked into midtown Omaha, Elmwood Park is a classic for a reason. The winding paths, towering trees, and open green spaces create a naturally gorgeous backdrop in every season. Fall is especially magical here when the leaves turn gold and orange. It's relaxed, spacious, and perfect for families with kids who need room to run.
Fontenelle Forest
For families who love a more lush, woodsy feel, Fontenelle Forest in Bellevue (just south of Omaha) is absolutely breathtaking. The dense tree canopy filters light beautifully, creating that soft, dreamy look that lifestyle photography is all about. It's ideal for families who want something a little more adventurous and natural.
Lauritzen Gardens
If you're dreaming of a session surrounded by blooms and manicured beauty, Lauritzen Gardens is stunning — especially in spring and early summer. The variety of garden settings means we can get so many different looks in one session. It does require a permit, but the results are completely worth it.
Heartland of America Park & Gene Leahy Mall
For families who love a more urban or modern aesthetic, the downtown Omaha waterfront area offers beautiful water reflections, open sky, and architectural interest. The recently renovated Gene Leahy Mall is also a gorgeous option with fountains, greenery, and wide open spaces.
Standing Bear Lake
Standing Bear Lake on the northwest side of Omaha is one of Omaha's hidden gems. The open fields, tree lines, and lake views make for incredibly versatile photos. Golden hour here is absolutely unreal — warm, glowing light with wide open skies. This is one of my personal favorites for lifestyle family sessions.
Memorial Park
Sitting right in the heart of the city, Memorial Park offers wide grassy lawns, mature trees, and that classic, timeless feel. It's easy to get to, familiar to most Omaha families, and consistently delivers beautiful results no matter the season.
Chalco Hills Recreation Area
For a more off-the-beaten-path feel, Chalco Hills on the southwest side offers rolling hills, wildflowers, prairie grasses, and open skies. It's perfect for that relaxed, editorial lifestyle look and feels far more expansive and rural than you'd expect from a city park.
Tips for Choosing Your Location
Not sure which spot is right for you? Here's how I help my clients decide:
Think about your family's vibe. Are you adventurous and outdoorsy, or more classic and timeless? The location should feel like you.
Consider your kids' ages. Toddlers do best somewhere open and flat. Older kids can handle more terrain.
Think about the season. Some locations shine in fall, others in spring. We'll pick what looks best for your session time.
Trust your photographer! I scout locations regularly and will always recommend the best spot based on the time of day, season, and your family's style.
