If you're a senior (or a senior's parent) starting to think about portraits, you probably have a lot of questions. What do you wear? When should you book? How long does it take? What happens after the session?
You're not alone, these are the exact questions I hear from almost every family I work with here in Omaha. So I decided to put them all in one place and answer every single one.
Welcome to your one-stop guide to senior portraits.

How Far in Advance Should I Book My Senior Session?
This is probably the number one thing I wish more families knew early on: book sooner than you think you need to.
Most seniors want their photos done in late summer or early fall, that golden light, the warm tones, the beautiful outdoor settings. That means my calendar fills up fast between June and October. I recommend booking 3 to 6 months in advance, especially if you have a specific date or location in mind.
If you're hoping for photos to use in your school's yearbook, check your submission deadline first, then work backwards from there so we have plenty of time for your session and gallery delivery.
What Should I Wear to My Senior Session?
Oh, this question. It stresses people out way more than it needs to! Here's my honest advice:
Wear what feels like you. If you live in jeans and a flannel, bring that. If you love getting dressed up, do it. Senior portraits are about capturing who you are right now — not who you think you're "supposed" to look like.
A few practical tips:
Bring 2–3 outfit changes. Variety gives you more options and makes your gallery feel dynamic.
Avoid busy patterns or large logos — they can distract from you in photos.
Think about color. Earthy tones, soft neutrals, and jewel tones tend to photograph beautifully.
Comfort matters. If you feel awkward or uncomfortable in something, it will show in the photos. Wear what makes you feel confident.
When you book with me, I'll send you a full style guide so you're never guessing!
Where Do Senior Sessions Take Place?
One of my favorite parts of this job is scouting locations!
Omaha and the surrounding area have SO many beautiful spots, and we can absolutely tailor the location to your vibe.
Some popular options include:
Urban/downtown settings for a more editorial, modern feel.
Parks and nature areas for soft, natural light and lush greenery!
Your own backyard or hometown, sometimes the most personal spots make the best photos!
Your school, a sports field, or a meaningful location that tells your story.
Not sure what fits? Tell me a little about yourself during our consultation and I'll make recommendations. That's what I'm here for!
What Happens After My Session?
Once we've wrapped your session, here's what to expect:
Editing & culling: I go through every image and select the best of the best, then edit them to my signature style.
Gallery delivery: You'll receive a link to your private online gallery, typically within 1–2 weeks of your session.
Choosing your favorites: From there, you'll select the images you want to download, print, or order products from.
Downloads & prints: Your gallery makes it easy to download your images or order professional prints, wall art, and more right from your phone.
I'll walk you through every step of this process, no confusion, no chasing me down for answers. Communication is something I take seriously!
How Many Photos Will I Receive?
This depends on your package, but most seniors receive between 15 and 30 edited, gallery-worthy images.
I'd rather deliver a smaller collection of truly stunning photos than flood you with 400 similar shots.
Every image in your gallery is fully edited, retouched, color-corrected, and ready to print or share.
Can I Bring Props or Pets?
Yes and yes! Seriously, bring the things that make you you.
A few ideas I've seen and loved:
Sports gear, instruments, or uniforms, show off what you're passionate about!
Your car, your horse, your dog, why not?
Books, cameras, art supplies — if it tells your story, it belongs in your session
The more personal your session feels, the more you'll love the final photos!
